HOW IT WORKS
Mainstreets are the heart & soul of our communities and local economies. These vibrant hubs of everyday life are the places we connect with one another. Our goal is to bring energy & resilience to the centre of our neighbourhoods through community action projects. Our process re-imagines and re-builds an area by mobilizing people to cultivate the beauty and potential of a main street.
Citizens re-imagine their main street and brainstorm ideas for great public space that encourages walking, biking, entrepreneurship and community pride.
Teams of citizens prototype action projects that activate the MainStreet and embody the needs & identity of the neighbourhood.
Showcase all action projects in a street party that activates public space and enables people to experience the full potential of a community designed main street.
People are in tune with the roots of their neighbourhood, feel responsible for its future and play an active role in its governance.
The Mainstreets process is currently under way on Gottingen Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Gottingen Street is at a pivotal moment in its history as it enters a period of rapid change after decades of economic decline. Now is the time to embrace the history and cultural diversity of the street, bring communities together to celebrate its vibrancy and renew its status as an important hub in our city.
